AMS welcomes Jessica Schmitt!


After moving to Raleigh at an early age, Jessica Schmitt grew up in the Wake County Public School System.  She attended A.B. Combs Elementary School, Ligon GT Magnet Middle School, and Enloe Magnet High School.  After high school, Mrs. Schmitt attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, where she received a Bachelor of Music in Vocal Performance and a Master of Arts in Teaching K-12 music.  While an undergraduate at UNC, she received an Indy from the Independent Weekly for best music direction of a musical.  She was also a member of Tar Heel Voices, UNC's oldest co-ed a cappella group, and served as their conductor.   Mrs. Schmitt  is a member of the North Carolina Music Educators Association and an alumna of Sigma Alpha Iota (Iota Tau), a women's music fraternity.   She serves as the Middle School Chorus Staff Development Chair for WCPSS and previously oversaw the running of the WCPSS All-County Chorus.  Mrs. Schmitt previously taught at Mills Park Middle School in Cary and Centennial Campus Magnet Middle School in Raleigh.


Mrs. Schmitt studied music education and conducting with Dr. Daniel M. Huff, Susan Klebanow, and Mérida Negrete.
She studied voice with Liz Labelle, Dr. Rebecca Putland, and Dr. Valentin Lanzrein.
